The Between Islands project was devised by An Lanntair, a multi-arts venue in Stornoway, with the aim of collectively promoting the heritage and culture of Orkney, Shetland and the Outer Hebrides. This has been undertaken through the development of specific projects encouraging inter-island collaboration and, with financial assistance through the LEADER 2014-2020 regional cooperation scheme, a series of larger scale initiatives during 2019 to 2020, including concerts at Orkney’s 2019 Folk Festival, lectures, exhibitions and performances in each island group.

Special online exhibitions examining themes that connect and emphasise differences between islands have been created by Orkney Museum, Shetland Museum, and Museum and Tasglann nan Eilean, comprising items from each museum service’s permanent collection and complementary material from project partners, collections and archives around Scotland.

The music used in the film is by Louise Bichan from her Out of My Own Light album.

We are grateful to all our funders and partners for making the Between Islands project possible. Visit the Between Islands website here.
